Himachal Minister Goes Against Congress Line Supports Uniform Civil Code

Appearing to go against the party line, Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh on Friday extended his “full support” for a Uniform Civil Code while urging against its “politicisation”. The public works and sports minister in the state's Congress government questioned why the issue was being brought up just months ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Mr Singh is the son of Himachal Pradesh Congress chief Pratibha Singh. His late father Virbhadra Singh was a six-time chief minister of the state. On Facebook, the Congress leader said in Hindi, “I fully support the Uniform Civil Code which is necessary for India's unity and integrity, but it should not be politicised.” He questioned why the NDA government at the Centre did not implement such a law when it enjoyed a complete majority in Parliament for nine years. “Why is there propaganda on it just a few months before the elections,” he asked. At a meeting in Bhopal earlier this week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a s

Union Minister's "Vulture Tourism" Jibe On Rahul Gandhi's Manipur Visit

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Friday took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Manipur visit to Manipur and said that he engages in what he called "vulture tourism". Mr Chandrasekhar accused Mr Gandhi of visiting places where people are suffering instead of actively addressing the long-standing issues in those societies "I find that Rahul Gandhi always has this habit of making these visits almost look like a vulture tourist goes and travels places where suffering is going on. Instead of contributing to decades of tension in some societies that have been ignored by years under the previous government, he goes there for a little vulture tourism visit," Mr Chandrasekhar said. He expressed his hope that Mr Gandhi finds satisfaction in his photo opportunities during his visit and returns to his usual activities during his holidays in foreign countries. "I don't want to comment too much about it. I certainly think that all want peace to be re

"Don't See...": Gayle's Big Statement On Kohli's Likely Form At 2023 WC

Former West Indies captain Chris Gayle expects star India batter Virat Kohli to dominate proceedings at the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup on home soil. Kohli has been in stellar form with the bat since ending his century drought last year during the Asia Cup in UAE. He has score four tons across formats since then. The 34-year-old also hit two back-to-back centuries during the recently-concluded Indian Premier League season. Gayle feels Kohli is in the right frame of mind, which makes him the player to watch out during the tournament. "Tough times don't last long tough players last longer. Virat is tough mentally as well physically. I don't see any reason why he shouldn't go to this World Cup and dominate. "Because Of Tolerance Of Hindus...": Allahabad High Court On 'Adipurush'

The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday pulled up the makers of "Adipurush" over the “very shameful manner” in which the movie portrayed the Ramayana characters, asking them to imagine the law and order problem if the Quran was treated in a similar manner. The Lucknow bench of the high court, which was hearing a petition seeking a ban on the film, asked why such movies are made on the Ramayana, Quran or Bible when they disturb religious feelings. "Suppose a small documentary was made on the Quran, can you think what kind of a serious law and order problem would have been created. But because of the tolerance of Hindus, things are not turning ugly despite this blunder by filmmakers," said the vacation bench of justices Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Shree Prakash Singh. "Lord Shiva was shown to be running with his trishul in a movie. Now, Lord Ram and other characters of Ramayana have been shown in a very shameful manner. Should it not stop?" the bench asked. D

Watch: Khawaja Bamboozled By Tongue At Lord's. His Reaction Goes Viral

Australia's David Warner made England pay for dropping him in helpful conditions with a quickfire fifty before the hosts removed Usman Khawaja after protesters briefly disrupted the second Ashes Test at Lord's on Wednesday. It looked like Australia would get through the first day's opening session without losing a wicket when, to what became the last ball before lunch, Josh Tongue bowled Khawaja, playing no shot, for 17 with a delivery that cut back in. Fellow left-handed opener Warner was 53 not out in Australia's total of 73-1. That still represented a good morning's work for Australia, 1-0 up in the five-match series after a thrilling two-wicket win in last week's first Test at Edgbaston. Australia were sent into bat by England captain Ben Stokes on a green-tinged Lord's pitch and under overcast skies that aided the hosts' four-strong frontline pace attack. The match was briefly halted before the second over when two Just Stop Oil protesters ran

Before the term of the corporators ended early last year, Agaldare represented Ward No. 99 - Khar Danda - of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Speaking on the occasion, according to a statement by his office, Mr Shinde said that the speed with which the Shiv Sena-BJP government is working in the state for the last 11 months has made the Opposition worried about its future. "Since our government came to power, we have taken several decisions for the welfare of the public and in a short span of time we have expedited developmental works that had come to a halt under the previous government. Those who ruled the BMC for 15 years didn't do anything for the city," said Mr Shinde. The Opposition is scar
