A massive landslide today blocked a road in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar region as light to moderate rainfall hit isolated places in the region. The landslide blocked the Kishtwar-Paddar road in Kishtwar district, forcing the suspension of the vehicular movement. A video of the landslide shows a large portion of the hillside caving in with loose mud cascading off it. People could be heard screaming and leaving the place in panic, video shows. Machines were later moved to the scene to clear the road at the earliest, officials told news agency PTI. The weather department has also issued an advisory of flash floods, landslides and shooting stones at a few vulnerable places due to moderate thunderstorms or lightning in the coming week. For the first time in Indian military history, two classmates, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi and Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, will be service chiefs of Indian Army and Navy. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi and Army Chief Designate Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi studied at the Sainik School, Rewa, in Madhya Pradesh. They were together in the school from class 5th-A in the early 1970s. The roll numbers of the two officers were also around each other, as Lt Gen Dwivedi's roll number was 931 and Admiral Tripathi's was 938. Maldives police have arrested two serving ministers for allegedly performing black magic on President Mohamed Muizzu, local media reported on Thursday. Shamnaz Saleem, who was a state minister at the Environment Ministry, her ex-husband Adam Rameez, who was serving as a minister at the President's Office, and two others were arrested, local media said quoting the police, which, however, declined to share any information about the reasons or the alleged performance of black magic. The Bombay High Court on Wednesday said it was ashamed to see commuters forced to travel like cattle in the local trains, the lifeline of the Mumbai region. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on rising number of deaths of commuters due to falling from overcrowded trains or in other accidents on the tracks, the high court said this "very very serious" issue must be dealt with. A division bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar said it will hold the top officials of both the Central and Western Railways accountable as the "situation in Mumbai is pathetic". A 70-year-old Cameroon national was arrested for smuggling cocaine worth about Rs 11 crore at the Delhi International Airport, the customs department said today. The cocaine was recovered from his alimentary canal, according to officials. Simon Alfred Nagong, the accused, touched down at Delhi's Indira Gandhi Airport on June 17 after traveling from Addis Ababa (Ethiopia). He was pulled up for additional questioning and investigation after he exhibited odd behaviour at terminal 3 of the Delhi airport, according to the Customs Department. During questioning, the accused confessed that he had several drugs concealed throughout his body. After this, the Customs Department team took the accused to Safdarjung Hospital and a medical board kept a constant watch on him. Lukas McClish, 34, from Boulder Creek, California, is back home after spending 10 days lost in the Santa Cruz Mountains, according to ABC 7 Los Angeles. McClish had set out for a day hike on June 11th but became disoriented and lost his way. After he failed to show up for a planned dinner on Father's Day, he was reported missing on June 16th. A search effort was launched, and McClish was fortunately rescued four days later. "I left with just a pair of pants, and my pair of hiking shoes, and a hat. A 17-year-old boy had stepped out of a swimming pool and walked a little distance when he collapsed, showed a disturbing video from Uttar Pradesh. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival. The incident, which took place on Friday afternoon, was reported from Meerut. The boy, Islam, played cricket early in the day and then returned home. Soon after, he left for the swimming pool with his friends. "A few children were there at the pool. CCTV shows that a boy steps out of the pool, walks a little and then slumps to the floor. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) endeavors to smell out a crisis early and act on it, Governor Shaktikanta Das said, stating that not taking any action on the unsecured lending front would have created "bigger problems". The November 2023 action to curb growth in the riskier unsecured lending has had the desired impact as the growth in such portfolios slowed down, Mr Das said addressing an international conference on financial resilience at the RBI's College of Supervisors in Mumbai. Restrictions on unsecured lending were the result of a view that there could be a potential problem in the credit market because of growth in unsecured lending, he said. The overall headline parameters were looking good, but there was "clear evidence" of dilution of underwriting standards, lack of proper appraisals, and a mentality to join the bandwagon for driving up the unsecured lending among some lenders, he added. The political adviser to jailed former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan has reportedly been kidnapped by unknown men from Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, according to a media report today. Ghulam Shabbir, who is the elder brother of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shahbaz Gill, was abducted by unknown individuals two days ago while he was travelling to Islamabad, according to an FIR registered at the Kahna police station, Pakistan's Express Tribune newspaper reported. The FIR, registered by his son Bilal, states that Shabbir had left his residence in Lahore's Khayaban-e-Amin late at night and headed towards Islamabad. No further details were available.
